Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are playing a combination coverage this week that is a mix of quarter quarter half, robber, and some cover 3 principles (depending on the formation, if that makes sense) this week against an option team who likes to crack block on the OLB and SS. What are some things you do to defend against the crack besides communicating it? What shoud the OLB's reaction be to a crack block "call?" What about for the SS? I have been laying in bed trying to figure out the best way to start the game out as far as alignment of the flat player. We run a 5-2 / 4-3. I am torn between just getting upfield and turning the play in / getting our back to the blocker and turning to take / avoid the crack. There are problems with both.
The CORNER who is covering the man "cracking" must make a "CRACK" call, & upon contact replace the man being cracked (in the force element). The man being "cracked" should "CRACK THE CRACKER"! Any good OLB or S/S is generally PHYSICALLY BETTER than a WR! Knock the HELL out of him!

I couldn't say it any better then Bill just did. Be physical with that WR who is cracking. The corner needs to be aggressive against the run and "fill the crack", coming up to replace. A second way of getting through the crack is for the OLB or SS to read the play quickly and aggressively step up to defend the run so the angle for the crack is gone and there is nothing to hit but their back. A third way is to use a speed rip past the crack. Have the OLB or SS run right at the crack and perform a rip move with the shoulder closer to the LOS while sprinting past the cracker. I mentioned the last option last because I prefer the other two.
Oh, and CUI, it sounds like you're playing the same type of team I am with the same defensive scheme I am. Good luck.
