Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have taken over a new football program that was started only 3 years ago. We woon the first game in school history two weeks ago. My defense has not given up but 2 tds in the past two weeks. The problem is the offense. My biggest lineman is only 225 and he outwighs everybody by 20 pounds. We are far better pass blockers thhan run blockers because wecan use leverage and spread the defense out. I have a 6'5 230 power forward that is playing football for the first time. So as expected he drops more balls than he catches. He however has after 5 games 20 catches for 308 and 4 td's. He has also caused 5 picks by either tipping the ball or running the wrong route. I have 2 sprinters off the track team, I have tried these2 guys at every position. they only are effective thus far on the sweep and the option due to thier reluctance/fear to run anything inside of the tackles. My other wide outs wont catch a cold buttnaked in Alaska. The qb is very religious and is questioning his faith by askking why wont they catch the ball. t is not like we are getting sacked or cant ake the throws, they just drop the ball. I know that they are a rebuilding program but we must do better than this any suggestion will help. I cant keep doing the defense like this. We were somewhat effecive in the screen gamebut then they quit catching those. I cant be limited to running sweeps, options, and jump balls. ANy Ideas will help. Coach,
You are in a very difficult position. And to tell you the truth, I'm not sure how to teach toughness. Your sprinters have to become tougher. You can try a day of just hitting drills, tackling drills, and the like to force the guys to get used to the contact. But, you can't force something like that into a kid. They are either tough or they're not. If this is their first time playing football, it may be fear and the hitting drills can help through teaching them that while getting tackled hurts, it won't be the end of the world. As for the catching, spend your entire individual time on catching drills and catching technique. Hit them with pads while they catch the ball as well to teach them how to catch in traffic. Telling the kids to have a ball in hand as much as possible is another good way. I find the more comfortable they are with a ball in their hands, the better they will catch. There are little drills they can do on their own or in their spare time that are tough to explain. However, if you would like to know them, send me an email. Griffmoose@aol.com. Great job with the defense. That shows that your kids hustle and hit. And as I think about it now, they aren't afraid of the concept of contact if they tackle. They just don't like the idea of being hit. Tell them to take a defensive mentality when they carry the ball. Hit the defender before the defender can hit you. If you do it often enough, they may not want to hit you and it will be easy to avoid them. Just a few thoughts. I hope that helps a bit. Good luck.
