Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
It all depends what type of players you have. I normally would try to pressure from the rollout side. You can have the OLB blitz contain from the side the QB is rolling out to. We are a passing team and we see that the teams that blitz us a lot give us a fits. Also, what patterns do they primarily run? I would be happy to give you some other ideas, just let me know a little about your team and what the other team likes to do.
They like to run bubble screens, HB screens, quick outs, hitches. They run a lot of quick things and move QB to keep pressure off. They might not get a lot of big plays, but they eat up the clock in small chunks like a bal control running offense.

You can get pressure by having the OLB rush when the QB sprints to his side. For example, if the QB sprints out to the right in the diagram above, SLB rushes him, The corner sits and the MLB fills the area vacated by the SLB (you can use the DE instead if you prefer). The QB will most likely try to throw quickly to the slot that the rushing LB was lined up over. If the slot breaks out, your CB should score. If the slot breaks inside the MLB should arrive about the same time as the ball and with a full head of steam.
On the back side, the corner and LB are in man. YOU MUST ASSIGN SOMEONE TO COVER THE RB in case he releases away from the sprint-out side either the backside DE or the FS can do it.
We sometimes call this to one side or the other in the huddle. When we do, the rushing LB shows it pre-snap to bait the QB into throwing that way. This also gives the MLB a head start getting to his area.
You can also send the OLB as described above, but have the SS come up looking for an inside break by #2, the FS roll to the other deep half and the MLB cover the RB. This can be a better call to the wide side if the #2 reciever is too far out for the MLB (or DE) to get there on a slant. On this call, if the RB is going to pick up the rushing OLB, the MLB should rush as well.
I run a 3 x 2 spread and would love to be defensed by a 4-3! That means your going to leave one receiver TOTALLY UNCOVERED and no DC in his right mind is going to give that to you. The suggestions made by coaches here are all good. My question to you is this coach: Why stay in your present formation when you can go a 3 x 2 empty and pull them right out of their base and make them very uncomfortable having to run something they don't like to? You will see from a well coached team the classic their 6 on your 5. We can now put a hat on 5 of them and we count on the QB becoming his own best blocker if they send all 6 in the box by using his legs to run out of trouble and throw or keep. Just a suggestion as always.
By spreading your receivers from 7 yds from each sideline in the PSL, you force the defense to stretch horizontally and there is no way they are going to be able to keep 7 in the box without leaving somebody uncovered.
One of the previous posters said that a blitzing team gave them fits. 9 out of 10 DC's will tell you the way to beat an empty set is to blitz the fire out of it. WE PRAY FOR THEM TO BLITZ, as we work hard year 'round with our receiver corps and our QB's and our blitz beating package which is built around the philosophy that starts with the QB who is trained not to panic in the face of a blitz but rather to think "here is a great opportunity to make a big play! All I have to do is get the ball to the uncovered receivers!"
If their 4-3 proves to tough for you, be ready to give them another formation that they can't possibly stay in their base and beat you! Just a suggestion as always.

I know your question pertained to defensing from YOUR 4-3. Was just trying to give you another perspective from an offensive view point on how they may combat your base.
