Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I had the chance to go to the UF-UGA game last Saturday in Jacksonville. I recomend it to anyone who likes football, beer or pretty girls. If you like all three it is tough to beat
Anyhow, Georgia came out in a 2 deep look and UF was just killing them. UF would send 3-4 guys vertical, one of whom would break off his stem at 12-15 yards and be wide open. They were gaining 17-25 yards on each completion. When Georgia would go man under, the QB would just run. Often, I think UF got a pre-snap read with their motion, but even if they didn't, it is pretty obvious when 3 or 4 underneath defenders turn their backs to run with the vertical routes that they are in man.
After it was 14-0, UGA adjusted and the UF offense did not score again.
My questions:
Is it sound to run cover 2 against a spread team with a running QB?
If so, what is the right way to do it?
If not, what were the UGA coaches thinking?
I have run a 3 x 2 spread for 20 years now and we PRAY to see ANY KIND OF ZONE! ANY SPREAD QB WHO HAS BEEN PROPERLY TRAINED WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY AGAINST COVER #2. The best defense against my spread is man straight across the board! Have spent hours on the practice field with Mark Richt
when he was the QB coach at Fla. State and couldn't figure out why he was late in his adjustments Saturday. I coached the QB's at Raines High School in Jacksonville for 8 years and often attended Bobby's camps at FSU, spent the whole camps following Mark around and observing his techniques and coaching methods. HE IS A FINE QB COACH. It is my opinion that FSU hasn't had his equal at that coaching spot since he left for the Georgia job. I'm not saying that cover # 2 (zone deep, man under) is not sound in some folks minds, I'm just saying it is my experience that it is easily beaten by an experienced QB and receiver corps.

I know that Coach Richt does not need second-guessing from someone (me) who has never been a head coach at any level. I did not seek to insult him or anyone else with the original post. I am sincerely asking what the thought process might have been.
I was pulling for Georgia. I thought they had a real chance to win but for a flawed defensive scheme at the outset and far too many dropped passes on offense.
Just now read your response to my last post on this thread. Please forgive me if it came across as I thought you were second guessing Mark, as that certainly was not my intention at all. Your observations were sound in my book. I was glad to see them come back and whip Auburn. That's the trouble with the written word, it can be translated in ways other than those intended. I respect everyones opinon and the right to post them here at any time. I may not agree with them, but am certainly going to respect the posters right to state his views.

Thank you for the reply. I am glad there are no hard feelings.
Florida squeaked out another win but I think they will be in big trouble if they play OSU or UM. I am going to Columbus this weekend but I do not have tickets as of now. If I get tickets and observe anything worth posting about, I will do so. (More likely I will watch it on TV at the Varsity Club).
