Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
One thing we installed this year from the pistol formation was switching the traditional alignment of our H-Back and our Tail. The Tail was at 5 yards to the right or left of the Quarterback who was at 4 and a half, and the H-back was at 7 directly behind the quarterback. We zone read the backside DE and meshed with the tail like traditional zone-read option. The H went and blocked the outside LB to the playside as soon as the ball was snapped. The QB read the DE away from the inside zone and either gave the inside zone or pulled it and ran behind the H. This formation gave us some good looks because we could run inside and outside zone, we could run anything wanted to out of the passing set once we incorporated motion from the backfield to give us an Ace look (plus this made the defense give away their coverage, and the Ace formation is our base formation). Counter toss was fairly easy to integrate, along with counter out of an Ace look. It gave the quarterback the same viewpoint throughtout the entire game. Anyway the point of this post is to see if anyone else has come up with use for the pistol formation, or perhaps why they don't like it.
To get something you have never had before, you must do something you have never done before
Coach Seay has come up with a variation of the double-wing using the short direct-snap (pistol). I have not seen anyone use it in a game yet, but it looks like a nightmare to defend if the QB is a talented runner. Anyone seen this work/not work in a game?
There are 5 recievers that are a threat to go out for a pass quickly, plus most of the double-wing running stuff is available (just with the QB running it). How would you defend this? What if you don't have a corner capable of shutting down their WR?
