Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I need help with our 1/4 coverage rules and reads for the robber safeties. What do you teach your safeties to read? What kind of footwork do you use vs. a vertical route by the #2 receiver?
I teach our safeties to key the UCL wit a TE or the EML without a TE. They are to anticipate a pass set b tthe OL. If he does pass set, the safety will immediately shift his eyes to #2 as he begins to "walk out" and gradually progress into a backpedal as #2 climbs vertical. If the OL run blocks, he will punch downhill with the foot in the direction of backfield flow and play his force responsibility with flow to and "fit wherre needed" for cutback with flow away. A presnap call to the OLB with only 1 quick WR will allow the OLD to flow hard with backfield flow away as the safety will take his place for cutback since there isn't a WR to hold him.
As #2 continues vertical I teach the safety to play over top ro slightly inside shade and increase the rate of his backpedal as the play evloves. Obey the "Even Leavin'" rule - if the WR is even, he's leavin'. Anything vertical by #2 over 8 yards - he locks on.
If #2 disappers (breaks off his route inside 8 yards), his eyes immediately go to #1 - drive on the Curl and run with the post. By initially "walking out" the safety is now in position to do either. When runing with the post he should be inside leverage with the corner outside.
Down block = Fill one gap outside Under = Switch Under route is any route that breakes around 5 yards. We switch looking up or next zone Push = Slide Push routes are routes that are 5 to 8 yards. We slide not back peddle. Over = Top Over are routes that are over 8 yards. We lock on and stay over the top.
Backside safty on run has cut-back. We tell him he is a pinch player. He stays inside of running back comming down hill fast. PGOlla
We are also installing cover four for this upcoming season and are searching for tapes and other materials on it. Would appreciate any ideas on locating cover 4 material. Thanks.
