Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
In going thru these posts, I see that there are various ways of numbering the defenders, when you are running option. Which one would you recommend, the old Alabama system ( Noseguard #0, MLB #1, etc..) or the Progresssion system (ie: #1 dive, #2 pitch, etc..)?
If you use the old Alabama system, could you please explain which numbers you assign each defender, and whether you also use the inside/outside eye terminology.
And lastly, which system would be easier to teach at the high school level & for the various options: Midline, ISV/OSV, Belly, and Trap.
We count from the 1st DL on or outside the tackle. He is #1 for us. #1 is the dive key on ISV. The next defender stacked or outside #1 is #2. #2 is the pitch key on ISV and the dive key on OSV, typically. #3 is the force player. This system has worked well for us. However, I know there are other systems (like Bryant's at Alabama) and an outside-in couting system that works well for other coaches. You just have to pick one that works for you and your players.
