Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
TOTALLY DIFFERENT PLAY because RB's reads look totally different!!!!!!! How can he come across L to R - take TWO more steps after receiving handoff - SEE what he needs to see - AND, make a drastic roll back LEFT if his read takes him there? The GOOD IZ teams "square the RB's shoulders" by his 2nd step. I suggest you get the DVD's by West Virginia. They show how to run the ZONE from the Gun, & it is different (it is NOT actually an IZ, nor is it a OZ, but somewhere in-between). The blocking TECHNIQUE is somewhat of a "compromise" between the IZ & OZ as well.
PS: You asked about running the IZ to 4-3 OVER/SHADE:
If you study Howard Mudd's tape on the IZ ("COOL" CLINIC LECTURE) you will see that if the FOURTH MAN FROM OUTSIDE IN IS ON THE CENTER - GO TO THE OTHER SIDE! Counting from right to left - the "shade" is the 4th defender from outside-in, AND, he is on part of the Center! The Colts ran the IZ BEAUTIFULLY, down the throats of the Bears' #1 ranked defense in the Super Bowl!
It would be MUCH EASIER to discuss this via phone. 804-740-4479
