Coaches, we annually play a team that runs a multiple formation offense that has been giving us fits the past few years. At last count we had 20 formations with various kinds of motion. It seems like they keep throwing formations at us until they find a weakness. We have had adjustment rules for our kids (cover 2 vs doubles and cover 3 vs trips) but they will then pick up on this tendency and force us into cover 2 or 3 depending on the plays they wish to hit. Can anyone offer some advice on how they prepare for multiple formation offenses? Should I stick with a base 40 cover 3?
Coach, i went to a clinic and spoke with coach buddy ryan who was the cordinator for the bears at the time. He told us "it's pretty hard completing a pass sitting on your a$$ !" your adjustments seem good now pick your spot and blitz their fannies, off the corners when they show you all their one back formations.
Jakeman, is this team running WCO or another passing scheme, or do they run more? How many formation changes (e.g., walking LB and SS up on the line, press coverages) do you have. Have you got the athletes to run press corners on the #1s and use man free? You have a lot of options to present problems for the offense too. If they are switching up where they're attacking from, you can too!
