input for terms to tell the S/S where we want him to align in Cover 3... ie... field, replace slanting DE, TE, and multiple reciver side. any suggestions?

I would suggest that you played Quarters, and have the safeties rotate to Force on Toss and Option....However if you just want to play cover 3, have your ss align to formation and field(when the ball is on the hash)We set the secondary strength to the multiple receiver side....How do you plan on handling motion?
in the past we have run across with him, whether it is man or zone. wing motion we have inverted and rolled back and down with the other safety.
right now as is look at it, when we angle to the TE and drop the safety weak, it looks like the Kansas St. defensive stuff from Bob Elliot (9, 5, 1, 3, 5, with the safety dropping down weak). angling strong, looks like 4-2-5 (safety dropping down stg. , 7, 3, 1 weak, 5). the problem i have is when the ball is on the Hash, and we are angling to the field, i know some teams leave the S/S to the field. if we did this then the safeties would adjust to the motion. don't know how it would look on the field, though?

Do you always slant to the field when the ball is on the hash? What if they place formation into the boundary? If you slant to the field, there is no need to invert the safety into the boundary...Use the sideline as the 12th defender, and place to extra defender(ss) to the flank of the defense with the most field to defend....Have you ever checked your direcion to motion? Use directions to YOUR advantage not the offenses....If they know where you are going, you might as well shade your front instead of slanting them.....
1.) we will slant to the field or boundary, depending on tendencies
2.) apex the OLB between # 2 and the ball, and if we are still sending him he still goes
3.) yes, we make a bingo call and then a hole number in the direction we are angling ( even = left; odd = right)
the ball in the middle of the field, and you put the S/S to the formaiton, and you end up angling to him, you basically are giving up the flats away from him. which is one of the weakness of the 50 cover 3.

SMD, versus a 2 by 1 set(pro/twins/etc..), the only weakside threat to the flats would be the back releasing....Have you ever assigned your 9 and inside backer(weakside) to spy the back if he releases towards them...4 example, if he releases through A or B, the inside backer will take him....If he goes directly 2 the flats he OLB would pick him up.....
How do you handle inside and outside veer towards your direction?:light;
1.) inside veer..
- arc block by the TE = 9 techn will slow play QB to pitch
- veer block by the OT = DT will squeeze to Dive ( vs. option teams we will not Loop him)
- Cloudy read = PSILB will scrape to daylight and take first threat which should be the QB
- NG will take dive
- FS will fill the alley checking for the Dump first to QB to Pitch if in Cover 3
- vs. cover 2: CB has the pitch
2.) outside veer..
- 9 Techn will squeeze the veer block and take first threat
- DT will fight double team and take dive
- PSILB will scrape to day light and take QB
- Cover 2 corner will take pitch
- Cover 3 we would leave the S/S to the TE side and he would take pitch
we have always just slanted the DL either Tite, Weak, Field, or Boundary and let the S/S go to the Two reciver side or field. but it wasn't the core of our defense either. we may be going to this full time and i am trying to learn as much as i can for future reference.
thanks for the repsonses and questions.
