Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
On jet sweep we snap the ball when the back is in the backside B gap and handoff in the frontside A gap. The QB steps on jet is a slight lateral step 3-6" with playside foot to the playside, this helps with the opening of the hips and 180' turn with the handoff or fake. The QB's back is now facing the defense and the jet back is running by taking the ball or faking. The FB will now have the midline and the QB will fake or handoff and carry out his waggle fake or whatever your fake may be off of jet action.
The rocket for us has the QB snap the ball when the back is at the FB heels and the toss is received by the back when they get past the C gap. The toss for us is just a reverse out by the QB and basically an underhand toss to the back, leading the back at chest level. The QB will then continue with a waggle fake.
The QB and RB timing in both the jet and rocket need to be practiced during your indy and/or group time with a center. We use spacing strips and cones to make sure the snap points and handoff/toss points are on target.
