Just curious if those of you who do not spread it out during the year try to put in a package for 7 on 7 or if you try to run your regular stuff. We don't run a lot of 4 and 5 wide, but we have the ability to call plays out of those formations, so terminology is not a big deal. I am having a little trouble deciding what to do. We are an I team, but if we run our passes (3 receiver routes) and play action stuff I think we will probably get drilled in 7 on 7. Is it pointless to put in a new package specifically for 7 on 7? Any thoughts?
Character is what you're doing when no one is watching.
We are also a primarily I formation team with a 4 wide set. I will spend more time with the I formation working on the play action during 7 on 7. If you can comlpete passes with play action during 7 on 7, you are doing something right. We will also spend a little time working with the 4 wide during 7 on 7 as well, but we have that as a package. I look at 7 on 7 as a time to perfect what you do. That is why I do not look for 7 on 7 competitions. I merely look at 7 on 7 as a time to get better and get almost game like situations to coach the kids on.
As Oneback said, do what you do, and get better...Your Team Defense will get better during 7/7 because of all of the spread sets/motions and the substantial amount time given to the QB to make decisions....:cool;
We are a power running team as well.
We use 7 on 7 as a drill to isolate db's, fs, wr's and qb fundamentals.
Towards the end of practice we use about 10 minutes.
The following day we isolate our interior running with no db's or wr's.
