Hi guys,
My coaching staff is currently going through an issue that is kinda stressing us out. We currently have 4 coaches; head coach, off. coord, def. coord. (me), and special teams/assistant coach. Our OC is a great guy but he doesn't seem to fit with us other 3 coaches. He never associates him self with off season functions and always comes up with excuses not to participate in coaches meetings and such.
We can accept the fact that he can't make all of our meetings, but the main problem is that he has two kids that played on the team last year. One of his kids is a stud! He's a bull of a FB and can't be stopped running the ball. The other child is about 4ft 6inches and weighs about 60lbs...a runt. The smaller child hardly ever saw the field last year and only played his minimum snap count. It was always a stress to figure out where we could put him to get his snaps in. We ended up putting him at nose guard just to take up space and we played him some at WR as a decoy on running downs. He doesn't seem to have the passion for the game. His father (the OC) insists on keeping both kids together because they've been on each others teams their entire lives (including baseball, soccer, and basketball!). The smaller child is also a year younger.
We played mighty-mite 3 last year and will be moving up a weight class this year to Jr. Pee wee. All of us coaches are concerned for the smaller childs well being since he will more than likely be targeted when on the field on defense. The father/coach refuses to make the correct parental call here and choose what is in the best interest of the younger, smaller child.
We've suggested that he play down to MM3 again and progress his abilities but the father/coach is adamant about keeping the siblings together.
The head coach is non-confrontational and doesn't want to tell the OC that we're just gonna move on without him so we're stuck with this situation. To make matters worse, we have another child that may even be smaller than the one I am talking about who will also be back with us since our HC said he doesn't want to tell one to leave unless they both are gone.
How would you other coaches deal with this? It's getting frustrating because it is taking away snaps from our other more deserving kids.
Thanks,
Coach Ben
