Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are installing a new offense this season and I want to keep my blocking rules as simple as possible since I coach 8th graders. We will be running mostly I formation and I wanted to know what your blocking rules are for ISO and or Power (we use the FB to kick out the end). I don't want to have different blocking rules for every play. Is there any way I can avoid having different blocking rules for every play?
simple rules for playside: Inside gap, head up, linebacker.
When I was playing in HS our coaches taught power and counter and used those rules to keep it simple. Then you can teach subtle adjustments for fronts to get the combinations. I understand what you are working with at 8th grade, and it has to be simple. Doesn't get much more simple than that. If you wanted, at the 8th grade level, you could use those same rules to add in counter and dive option as well.
The way we respond to adversity is a direct expression of our character.
Many teams today ISO off the Inside Zone. They just use Inside Zone blocking & STAY on the double team rather than having an O-Lineman slip off on the LBer. Then you ISO that LBer with the FB, etc. We number defenders on zone blocking 0/1/2/3/etc.
You can run POWER with everyone blocking 0/1/2/3 but adding a rule for the TE of "first man inside my nose on or off LOS". Then the FB kicks out EMLOS.
We have been doing this forever, & it hasn't failed us!
If this isn't clear - email me at billmountjoy@yahoo.com & I can send you something on "NUMBERING DEFENDERS" that is widely used in HS/College/Pro.
