Lou,
Sorry I have not been on in a while, but I figured that was what you were referring to(Rocket). It is a great play and if executed properly it IS the quickest Run to the outside. Better than the jet play, because of the motion looking very similar to the standard deep motion and better vision after receiving the pitch.
As for the Hitch, I agree if you can get a quick release and proper route the Hitch is a great play.
Amazing how Grad School & getting your teaching license sucks up your time. Sorry for the lag fellas!
Tiger One,
To answer your post from 4/20, my HC doesn't like the OSV because of the angle of the mesh. Says it's too easy for the DE to play both dive and pitch. At first, I agree but I haven't finished doing my research yet. I also need to research the LOAD option. Man, I haven't even finished reading this whole topic yet. Classes should be easy from here on out so maybe more time for football. We'll see.
Something to think about for laughs:
I wanted to respond to the questions of best play to the perimeter. There are ups and downs to every play that attacks a defense. The best play to the perimeter will ALWAYS BE THE ONE that you and your staff believe in and get your kids to believe in. The defintion of best is: the highest quality to be found in a given activity or category of things. Quality is defined as: marked by a concentrated expenditure of involvement, concern, or commitment. Therefore, best is the highest concern or commitment to a play. Which means the best perimeter play is based upon judgement or belief. However, if we are looking for the most effective then that would bring up another argument. Which means: adequate to accomplish a purpose; producing the intended or expected result. Well, then there are a lot of plays that are effective to get to the perimeter. I think the best term is the easiest way to get the ball to the perimeter. Which would then be the hitch because that means not hard or difficult; requiring no great labor or effort. Hitch would therefore, be the easiest way to get the ball to the perimeter rather than the best or effective way.
How about this the easiest, most effective best play to the perimeter. I agree it would be the hitch.

We dont lose any games we just run out of time.

My thought is if you are running the true triple. the defense can dictate who's getting the ball, most of the time. The QB and the FB are usually the first 2 options. I like them to be my best backs. Also, old adage is: be strong down the middle
Granted if you speed option or double option, you have a better chance to get the ball to a "pitch back". But in the true triple....a lot of good reads have to take place before those guys get the ball.
Karjaw:
I like your venacular, easiest, most effective way to get the ball on the perimeter. Good wording.

Happy are those who dreams dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.
Makes sense, thanks Coach. We've got a schedule next season in which it will be tough to line up and slug it out hat to hat up front, I'm thinking an option game could be an equalizer for us.
