Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know it can be done, but I would not try it (ESPECIALLY if it is 4 wides, as opposed to 2 WR/2 TE from a "2/2" set). AND, 2 TE's would set you up with a 7 gap defense vs an 8 gap O-Line! QUARTERS would be best!!!!!!!!!!!! Stops 4 verticals, etc.
Rotating 4 deep to 3 deep is too easy to read (movement of W/S) & leaves you too vulnerable away from rotation with 1 on 1's vs. a BAILING CORNER.
IF you rotate the CORNER down - HE is vulnerable to being oversplit by WR & not being able to support the outside zone, etc. If it is SAFETY rotation - narrow WR split sets him up for cracks, etc. Also - misdirection passes (boots, etc.) is the "BANE" of rotational coverage! PLAY QUARTERS, QUARTER-QUARTER/HALF, or pre-rotate your Cover 3 (& "lock-in")!
Coach,
Our offense runs the spread with option.
We can't cover 4 verticals in cover 3. If there is a 2x2 with TEs, we might have a shot. We have automatically checked vs our own offense and other teams to a cover 2 or 4. Also, by making this check, it has helped us cover pitch on option. The high safety has pitch. the backside safety has QB over ball away from him.
Another thing we did if we wanted to stay in cover 3 is our SS who rolled up will carry a vertical by #2 and the safety has vertical if the opposite #2 goes vertical. However, your SS better be able to scoot.
If you can "stop the run", the offense becomes predictable.
