Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Watching film from last season, most of the teams played ran versions of zone. If all DL are able to penatrate there assign gaps its fine, but if one player gets driven off the ball it opens a nice hole for the RB. So, due to irregular penatration by the DL, I'm getting away from coaching the rip through gap technique and went with more of a gap control style.
Does anyone have techniques or drills for gap control?
Rex Ryan has a video that may be of help to you. I cannot lend it to you at this time because I have lent it to another coach. He stresses the DL getting his hips in the hole. This is a departure from the more traditional emphasis on head placement.
We run a 4-3, 5-2 look. I've turn to the gap control for a more stable d-line play. Crowding the ball with a more compact stance I've seen with nfl teams. It already shows getting off the ball and attacking the gap side shoulder of the o-line and reading their blocks first while keeping ground assigned seems to work. I'll see more once we scimmage other teams.
