This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am currently a college student (I have about a year and a half or two years until I finish my requirements for both of my majors) and recently I have become interested in getting into coaching after I graduate. I personally have seen the difference that sports can make in a young kid's life and I think that coaching and teaching is something that I can do with my life that can actually help people. My question is, is there anything that I can do now that could help me get a job coaching somewhere after I get out of school. Should I contact some of the local schools (I live in one of the biggest cities in my state and there are probably 10 or 12 schools within about 20-25 minutes of me) and see if I can volunteer my time or something like that? Also what are some other things that I could do that would help me learn more about the game (read books, etc., and if so I would appreciate some suggestions).
If your college has a football team you may be able to volunteer your services there. Film editing and a various insundry of other duties would afford you great experiences.
If not, local HS teams always need scouters, filmers and anything you can do to get your foot in the door and learn the game.
Also, youth football. Would be great on your resume as doing community service. This site is awesome for asking questions and learning the game.
Pick Coach Easton's brain..I think his favorite football team is called the Gamecocks and dwell in Columbia, SC....
Happy are those who dreams dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.
Deac's post really hits it. What school do you go to? I know a lot of smaller schools have student coaches. You may not have loads of responsibility but you will learn a lot and it will help you get a job when you get out of school. If you are at bigger football school often times they will have work study jobs for video. If you are going to learn how to use editing systems and terminology I think think would be an excellent resume builder. If you can bring video experience with you that is huge because a lot of high school coaches have trouble with video or need someone on the staff that is good with video breakdown. If you look at guys like Mangini, they got started because they were hardworking film guys. That's how they got their foot in the door.
Whatever you do, just be enthusiastic. The more I'm around coaching (I'm just an assistant) the more I see the importance of enthusiasm and dedication over knowledge. Don't get me wrong, knowledge is important. But if I am a good HC or coordinator I believe I can teach my philosophy/schemes and techniques to a young assistant. What I can't teach him is to want to be there, put in the hours, be a positive presence in the program, and to love coaching. Those are the things you need him to have.
Gamecock, I started coaching high school football at the age of 18. 12 years later I coach at a nationally-ranked college program that went undefeated last year. Email me at CellaFBall@aol.com if you have any questions. Take care.

Gamecock,
I graduated from Charleston Southern University and actually volunteered there when I was in school back in the early 90's. When I student taught I volunteered at the high school I taught at which led me to getting a job at that same high school. Goose Creek.
Volunteering is the way to go and shows that you are motivated to learn, and not necessarily by money.
Try to hit the clinics in Charleston each year. Its a great place to network and there is also a job posting board there.
