Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
ALL that depends on the TECHNIQUE of the DT. In the 5-3's WE see - they can be in a 5; 4; 4I; or 3 techniques.
If a 4, 4I, or 5 technique - the TE & ON T "TREY" from the DT to the MLB. Vs the 3 technique - the TE goes on to the MLB & the frontside T & G & C have to GAP BLOCK DOWN (no double team). We trap the DE & wrap the SLB.
To the SE side there is GENERALLY a 3 - so the ON T; ON G; & Center GAP block down. We remove the OLB by flexing "H" at leat 5 yds. We trap the DE & wrap the MLB.
NOTE: Center NEVER doubles Nose on the Counter - he blocks first man on the LOS offside, period!
ONSIDE RULES
A) ON TE RULE = ON T COVERED – “TREY” (IF ON G UNCOVERED) OR “GAP” (“SOLID LOOK). ON T UNCOVERED – THRU TO MLB AREA. CP: VS 7 TECHNIQUE – ARC BLOCK NEXT MAN OUTSIDE (G WILL TRAP THE 7).
B) ON T RULE = ON G COVERED – “DUECE” (IF CENTER UNCOVERED) OR “GAP” (IF
“SOLID” LOOK). ON G UNCOVERED – “TREY” WITH TE .
C) ON G RULE = CENTER UNCOVERED – “DUECE” WITH ON T. CENTER COVERED – BLOCK DOWN (“GAP” IF YOU & CENTER BOTH COVERED = “SOLID” LOOK).
D) CENTER RULE = BLOCK BACK ON THE FIRST MAN ON L.O.S. AWAY FROM POINT OF ATTACK (BE ALERT FOR LBer RUN THRU A GAP – OR NOSE CROSSING YOUR FACE TO OFFSIDE).
On the "old" ORIGINAL Redskins "COUNTER-TREY" - pulling the OFF G & OFF T - IF you didn't block the Center flat down the LOS away from the POA - the backside DE would EAT THE PLAY UP! CTR. goes as far back sometimes as the B/S 3 tech. - & must HAUL ASS!
If Center gets hung up on a Nose that crosses his face as he blocks flat down the LOS away from the POA - then the man who has the "SQUEEZE-HINGE" technique must suffice. The line splits are so tight that the Center usualy drives the NOSE into the next man on LOS offside.
IF you pull the H/Y from the offside (as MOST do) - the Off T squeezes down to get a blow on the 3. If you pull the Off T - the H/Y offside has to do it.
Here is the description of the technique:
"SQUEEZE-HINGE": TAKE A LATERAL STEP TO B GAP (STAYING SQUARE) USING A HAND WHAM ON ANYTHING THERE (TO BUY TIME FOR THE CENTER), THEN HINGE BACK ON EDGE RUSHER.
We have done it this way since 1982, & it is our BEST play. That is the way we got it from Joe Bugel & the Redskins back then. The Redskins got 204 yds rushing on THIS PLAY alone in Super Bowl XVII (still a single game SB rushing record).
If you wish to HEAR and/or SEE FILM of the technique described - check out Joe Bugel's great tape on the Counter from "GILMAN GEAR", or Russ Grimm's great tape on the POWER.COUNTER from the "COOL" clinic series.
