Hi I am in the Air Force right now but deffinately want to coach football I Breathe , Eat , and sleep football. All I can think about is coaching:D. I have my GI bill and want to start working on my degree so I can coach. Do I have to have a Sports Management Degree to end up coaching in college? I have a wife and 2 kids to worry about too so I cant get out and just like volunteer somewhere know what I mean? I played all my life ever since I was 5 years old. I love football with all my heart and have an open mind just waiting to learn everything I can about the game! If anyone could help me out and point me in the right Direction that would be awesome. Looking forward to meet some other people with the same passion for Football as me! And I also had a question about a formation that I found called the A- Formation has anyone ever ran that? And if so is it good and what kind of perssonel works well. Thanks!
I am veteran of the Navy, 1986-1990, who also had the GI Bill. This is what I did. I went to a small university in Illinois and volunteered on the college football staff there while I was in college. I ended up transferring to a school in Charleston, SC who was starting football and coached there until I graduated. I knew that I wanted to coach at the high school level so when I was student teaching I volunteered at the HS I was student teaching at.
I've been coaching for 15 years now and I actually get paid now.
If you go to any program and let them know that you WANT to coach, they'll find a place for you.
Good luck.

My brother plays at Henderson State in Arkedelphia, AR. He was going to be the starting running back this year but had a problem with his heart. They put him on a medical redshirt this year and made him part of the coaching staff until next year. I know I need to just go to school but I have to provide for my family too. My wife supports me so much in this she knows it is what I am supposed to do. Has anyone else went through this married?
Does your wife know what she's in for being a coaches wife?
For example, I have 4 children 4,6, 10 and 11 who all play sports. She's a teacher and during my football season is pretty much responsible for getting them to and from most places. My practices end about 6:30 each night and I get home between 7 and 7:30. I coach the varsity OL, am the JV offensive coordinator, so my Thursdays and Fridays are booked. Also, we start meetings this Sunday on gameplanning for our upcoming opponent. This will go on for 10 weeks minimum. Let her know what your schedule COULD be like so their are no surprises. The divorce rate in the coaching profession is high.
Good luck.

Sir my wife is a military wife who has been through me being gone getting shot at for months at a time while being pregnant and taking care of a rowdy 2 year old. During this time she had to move and clean our house as well as manage the finances while knowing that she might not get the chance to know I am ok and talk to me at about 3 am. She is happy that she will get to see me every night no matter how late. She knows how much of a passion I have and backs me fully. She can take care of herself I am sure.
