Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Had trouble on our 1st scrimage with the Db's and OLB's getting stalke blocked and craced on. What is your technique for the stalk and the crack?
Also, we are going to face a team that throughs a lot of WR screens out of trips. they throw to each of the recivers and change up between stalking and cracking.
We are 44 cover 3 mostly. I will have the C at 7x1 with deep 1/3, the OLB at 4x1 off #2 in flats, and a ILB will bumb out 4X1 off #3 in the seam to curl.
The PRIMARY KEY to save your guys from getting cracked is to always emphasize the ABSOLUTE NECESSITY FOR COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CORNERS AND THE SS/OSLB. If the ss/olb is going to get cracked, the CB MUST WARN HIM VERBALLY. I ALWAYS HAD MY GUYS JUST YELL OUT "CRACK" AS LOUD AS THEY COULD. IF THEY FAIL TO DO THIS, THE "CRACKER" WILL GO RIGHT THROUGH HIS TARGET'S EAR HOLE UNMOLESTED!!!

In terms of the crack block...we do as Coach Easton and Mountjoy have said. The corner is responsible for alerting the inside defender of the crackback. We just have him scream at the top of his lungs. We also let our backers/ends know that they have to keep their head on a swivel against certain teams that use the crack a lot. We see 3 or 4 teams each year who use it 8-10 times per game. So we have learned to live with it.
In terms of the coverage, we check to a 1/4, 1/4, 1/2 coverage where the trips side corner and the free safety both have deep quarters and the end/OLB/spur (whatever you use) stays in the flat. You then have the backside corner cover the backside 1/2 (essentially man to man on the lone reciever). WOLB/spur will then take #2 weak if they send the other back out for a flare or flat route. The three defenders on the trips side must understand, and be able to fight through, the blocks of the offense and make the tackle. However, we have to be careful not to bite too early on a pump fake. We tell our guys to attack as soon as the ball is in the air
