i don't think there is a real answer to this question, there's not set amount of time to stay on the block, you just have to make sure that the DL is out of the way. i did have a situation with a young group of kids where the guard couldn't get push whenever we were doubling the 2 tech, so the tackle would end up driving him down the line instead of up the field, and he would miss the LB scraping over the top. so to that we had to put a limit. we told him to drive the 2-tech 3 steps, and then go to the next level. it's not a sound coaching technique, but it worked. maybe this is what you're looking for. hope i helped

Then he moves on to the LB.

There are LATERAL DOUBLE TEAMS, and VERTICAL DOUBLE TEAMS. You have to decide WHICH to use.

We like the VERTICAL double team BECAUSE the outside blocker won't KNOCK THE INSIDE BLOCKER OFF THE DT.

To me, there has always been a diffference that is more than semantics between A DOUBLE TEAM BLOCK and A COMBO BLOCK. A DT block occurs when two OL"S get hip to hip and DRIVE BLOCK a single DL vertically off the ball. A COMBO BLOCK occurs when two OL's attack a single DL, WITH THE EXPRESS PURPOSE OF OF ONE OF THE OL'S CONTROLLING THE BLOCK, WHILE THE OTHER DOES ONE OF TWO THINGS: If ZONE BLOCKING, ONE WILL COME OFF, WHEN NECESSARY, TO BLOCK THE 2ND LEVEL DEFENDER (LB) AND NOT UNTIL AS WE DO NOT CHASE LB'S WHEN ZONE BLOCKING.

When COMBO BLOCKING and doing what we allude to as SLAMMING AND SLIDING TO THE 2ND LEVEL,
depending upon the position of the LB, the OL NEAREST HIM (LB) makes the original hit with his combo partner, AND THEN SLIDES TO AND ATTACKS THE LB.

So by virtue of this, one will take less time than the other and to affix an actual time really becomes an impractical situation. Just my opinion sa always.
