Well,
A rough start for us at the start of the season. Beginning with only 2 players that have ever played the game before in their lives, and only a week and a half until our first game, we started the defense off simple. A 44 Stack base and nothing else.
It worked great the first half of our first game, allowing the opposition only 3 points. Unfortunately though our offense could only manage 1 first down all game, and the defense became tired and allowed 24 points in the second half.
A disappointing loss, but I thought we had something to build upon.
Then the next day arrived. There were so many kids complaining about booboos and owies and not willing to take the field for a light practice. Some just not turning up at all.
We lecture the kids that are there about commitment and pride, (preaching to the choir) and find that we have exactly 1 defensive lineman and 1 offensive lineman actually dressed for practice!
After 3 days of pulling teeth to get kids to come out regularly we have to change the defense to a 3 man line, we just don't have any horses that are showing up to practice. (Of course all of the big guys show up on game day expecting to play because they thought they were starters.) We say no, and play the kids that were at practice and end up losing 56-6! Ouch...
Well, we're onto more practices now, and the turnout has been better... unfortunately the losses are going to hurt us and I'm not sure if we'll recover in time to save our season. The early practice time is gone and we're already way behind other teams who have many players who have played youth football for 4-5 years at least.
We have a game tonight, with a full team... so we'll see how it goes. Wish us luck!
