Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
this one the back is at 4 yards. I know this is the Duth Meyer short punt formation there gaurds are at 1 foot and tackles are at 4 feet. QB at 8 yards. these are the only formation they have shown. Just wondering what you guys would do we are a 4-2-5 team. Our base coverage is a single robber like Va-tech plays we run a quarters package also and cover 1.
I have run the 3 x 2 for 20 plus years, long before it ever got popular. The very best way to defend it, IMO, is to man up straight across the board with your CB's on the #1's, your twin SS's on the # 2's and a walked out LB on # 3 trips side. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FS OUT OF THE MOF UNTIL THE BALL IS IN THE AIR, EVER!!! YOUR TWIN SS'S HAVE 3 ASSIGNMENTS ON EVERY PLAY: 1. CONTAIN ON THE SWEEP 2. PITCH ON THE OPTION 3. FLATS ON THE PASS If the receivers run your #1's off, it matters not because you have those safties setting in there at 3 yds off the LOS and 5 yds wide. Just my way but it has been real good to us.

We roll up and play hard man with inside leverage(bump and Run, not turn and run) straight across the board! We are going to make them run the lowest percentage of completion routes possible and NEVER give up the inside quick slant, etc.

Now, all except for Bill's first choice listed where he plays off and I don't, he has hit it on the head as usual!!! Man up and play pressure bump and run with inside leverage. NOW YOUR TALKING DEFENSE IN MY BOOK!!!

Bill-I appreciate your theory of the the better the QB, the more heat you want to bring and vice versa.
When all is said and done with all the mechanics we teach, the reading skills, the intelligence factor, and all the rest of it, have long ago come to the conclusion that the QB's most valued gift is his ability to MAKE PLAYS WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN AND THE GAME IS ON THE LINE. Even in the case of an option QB, where I have always maintained that the guy who can read it the best is my hands on choice to be the starter (and I always will) the guy who can avoid the heat no matter how much they bring AND MAKE A PLAY IS REALLY THE MOST VALUABLE. The QB's number one job is to WIN, period! In order to do this on a consistent basis, he has to be the type of guy who can make plays! Just my opinion as always.

I've seen you state repeatedly that you feel defenses should roll up and play press man coverage across the board against the 3x2.
If the other team has 1-2 WRs that can flat out fly and you can't match them with anyone on your team, aren't you encouraging a go route and a bomb for a TD? I've always thought that you needed superior or at least equal athleticism to play man every play without attempting to disguise it.
What if you line up 5 across like a loose man coverage at 9-10 yards, and roll to various zone coverages just before the snap?
Go with what you know coach. I have run the 3 x 2 for 20 plus years, long before it or the spread of any kind became popular, and IMO, the rolled up hard man with inside leverage is the toughest to throw against, bar none. The only time we ever come out of it ourselves is when we are forced to by superior athletes, which really don't happen much. When we are forced out of it, we align as usual and roll to a cover # 2 disguise with the SS reverting to the hash at 12 yds- the FS moves laterally to the backside hash at the same distance- the weak S reverts to the MOF- the Corners run with the #1's on their side for a distance of 12 yds and then turn them to the safties on their side while they break off and invert for any underneath threat that may develop. We will go combo coverages of man under and zone deep, man on one side, zone on the other, etc. but our PREFERENCE BY FAR is man straight across the board. Your right about playing man EXCLUSIVELY ALL NIGHT, PRETTY RISKY BUSINESS, BUT WE CHANGE UP ONLY ENOUGH TO KEEP THEM GUESSING.
