Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We would like to install some fire zones next season from our 4-3 over/under fronts. Does anyone have experience with these? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AS A COACH WITH 42 YEARS ON FIELD EXPERIENCE, I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH YOUR TERMINOLOGY "FIRE ZONES". COULD YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THEY ARE? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME IN ADVANCE.

We attempted it in the spring. We are ranked in the top 10 in scoring defense in the country right now and we could not do it because we decided that WE WOULD NOT SACRIFICE DISGUISE FOR EXECUTION!
If your athletes can align with 100 percent accuracy, know what their base job is with 100 percent accuracy, and can do their job efficiently, then I would add a stunt/blitz package, and THEN once I mastered 100 accuracy in alignment, assignment, and 100 percent efficiency in technique, then I would add the zone blitz package.
Honestly, it's a great idea, but at the high school level it is too much! Get your kids to not make mistakes with their BASE defense first!

THANK YOU FOR CLEARING UP THE TERMINLOGY FOR ME. We have just always used the term "zone blitz". What Bill and Lou say makes a great deal of sense, as it always does, but I'm looking at it in another perspective. IF YOU HAVE THE ATHLETES WITH BRAINS, IT IS NOT ALL THAT HARD TO INSTALL REALLY. On the high school level, the QB is most often chosen because he is the best athlete on the team and not really well schooled in the mental aspects of the game, unless he is being coached by a real QB coach and not some coach who used to play line or whatever. No insult intended for ex-lineman! My point here is that the extra movement caused by the firing LB's and the reverting DL's may just cause the QB to really become confused in his reads and if they have not faced a zone blitzing team before you may just catch them with their pants down! It is just a thought.
