We were schooled last night in the finer points of the split back veer as we lost to a very good option team. I have a general question to anyone with input. We defended the triple option to the split side very well with our base 3-3, but had a mess of trouble when they ran it to their tight side. We seemed to be constantly outnumbered. We played with 9 in the box- played man with our CBs on their Wrs. Our Free played man against the TE, but also had pitch responsibility. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
All options that break big, break 90% of the time in the outer 1/3 of the field. If the Wideouts were running off your CB's you were allowing yourself to be very vulnerable to the OSV/ Lead Option/etc. Were they loading on you on the TE side? Tell me how exactly they were causing the bleeding and we will see if we can't help you.
