Navy uses a couple different formations always seeming to get in favorable situations. For instance against Delaware he used the Over formation bringing either WR over to an ineligible position to get it going. Against ND he used the tight double slot formation where both WR move within about 5 yards of the slots. I would be interested to here from flexbone coaches and anyone who know a little bit about how paul johnson operates about how to use formations out of the flexbone to get in favorable situations.
I know this is a little forever ago, but I like that formation some because the threat of the formation shift forces a team to move the corner over that ineligible receiver. If you can't block there corners and there is an active Free Safety, Notre Dames Free Safety has to have 20 tackles a game, You can put both of those guys on one side of the field and run the other way.
