Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
we run speed option out of shotgun
qb attacks DE.....end usually stays with qb.....qb then pitches to rb
if DE is playing in-between....qb can keep if open inside
Once the DE starts attacking qb with upfield rush, it sets up shovel pass nicely!

Speed option from under center reads the five technique with the QB running at the inside number of the read so that the play does not stretch. Coach CAmpbell

If under center I teach my QB's to open playside (5 or 7 o'clock depending on which side) and attack the outside shoulder of the pitchkey, usually the 5 tech. By attacking the outside shoulder of the 5 tech you create a pitch read by the QB 80%+ of the time. This get us big plays because our RB is the best runner on our team. If you have any other questions give me an email.
Remember that a good DC can take the ball out of the best runner's hands on the opposing team simply by aligment of the read, in the example mentioned above, in the PSL. QB's are trained to react in a certain manner to what read the read man gives, as you know. If the QB is the best runner, then all that has to be done is position the read man in the proper technique that will force the QB to either give or pitch, but not keep it. Have a plan to combat this.

I meant to add that if the RB is the best runner as mentioned in the above example, you still react in the same manner by aligning the read in a technique that will force the QB to keep or give, but not pitch.

I have our QB once receiving the snap take a 45 degree step with back foot in case he has to make the quick pitch with a quick slanting 5 technique. With the QB taking the 45 degree angle step with his back foot will put the pitch back in immediate pitch relationship. Coach Campbell
I'm not a huge fan of speed option unless my QB is an absolute beast, but I teach my QB's to step at 5 o'clock to get some space from the OL, attack down hill, make eye contact with the DE and attack his downfield shoulder (However I do understand the other attack if you are trying to get the ball in the hands of your RB). I always take the idea of "do this every single time unless..." In the case of this his rule would be..."I'm going to run for a touchdown every single time unless the read man crosses my face." My big concern with attacking that outside shoulder is an end slowplaying my QB...you'd be in danger of spilling wider than you want.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
Under Center Open at quarter step
Come with speed out and around the corner
Attack the outside shoulder of the force defender (will either be safety or corner)
Option off force defender
Shotgun Run down field attacking the outside shoulder of the defensive end
Option off defensive end
Why to attack the outside shoulder It cuts down the angle the defender has at batting the ball.
When the I-back catches the pitch they wanted him 2-3 yards from the line of scrimmage with shoulders parallel to the LOS.
The defensive end cannot play both the quarterback and I-back.
Landmarks used in the option game If lined up on left hash and running to the right or wide side of the field the quarterback has until the other hash to make the pitch or turn it up field.
If lined up in the middle of the field the pitch must be made by the numbers.
If lined up on the left hash and running to the hash or short side of the field the quarterback again has until the numbers to make the pitch.
