I have my MLB read fb to playside guard and my rob and lou ILB read guard to fb. I have seen coaches who have said when the guard blocks down on the nose they have the rob or lou to that side shoot the b (or what is now the "A" gap). Does this hurt you vs power and counter to that side. IF the Lou shoots the "B" gap is the mac suppose to scrape over the top to make the play off tackle? DO you feel you lose him on off tackle plays? Other coaches i have herd have the MLB shoot "B" gap to either side the guard blocks down on. DO any of you do this instead? DO you feel it is necesary that one LB always fills tha "B" when the guard blocks down even though the play is going off tackle? Thanks in advance coaches
MLB would have to scrape over the top if this is how you play your run fits. PSLB can redirect (get flat) once he hits the B gap and yes, at times he can make a play, but it isn't the way it is drawn up.
I think most teams try to spill Iso with the mike LB to the rob and lou backers. Similar to how some 4-3 teams spill I know that Oklahoma spills the iso to the SS in there eagle defense. Its a similar concept.
