What are you calling a TRUE B GAP DEFENDER? Just curious. When running the ISV against a 50 front you don't block the 4i-4-5 tech. The rule for the read is you always read the first man outside the B hole, as I'm sure you know, and of course you never block the read. The same goes for a 4 front except the read now is the 7-6-9 tech. Lots of times they will walk up a line backer and he will become the first man outside the B hole and thus he is the man you read. So obviously, your TRUE B GAP DEfENDER HAS TO BE A LB AND WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE EXAMPLE ABOVE, I don't know of an ISV blocking scheme that don't account for the LB's. Could you expound a bit? Thanks in advance for your time.

We would Duece combo the three technique with he guard and tackle. Coach Campbell

If that player is causing you issues, then definately block him--but then you aren't really running veer, are you? My approach is to have my guard widen a hair to give us some more room and make sure that he is getting to second level and wiping out that LB. Fact is, if you are running things right, that veer back should never lose yardage. If he is, he's moving too slow. The other option is to run trap and cutback and hang that defender out to dry.
