Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have your zone blocking hand-out from the 2006 mega and I like how you count the defenders and noticed it is very similar to split-T blocking from way back. My question has to do with the centers block. Your rule mentions the center blocking #0. My question has to do with the "Center Box" since your rules state "If "0" is not in the "Center Box" the center designates "0" as the first defender to the side he is blocking. Could you define the center box?? Is it from the inside feet of the OG's??
Defender is in the "CTR BOX" if he is on either shoulder OR head up - on or off the LOS - up to 5 yds deep.
PS: you are correct - this DOES go back to the "Split-T". It has been widely used in ALL systems, including by such all-time greats as Sid Gillman; Vince Lombardi; Bear Bryant; etc. Probably 50% of NFL & Major Colleges use it today!
F. NOTE: IF “0” IS NOT IN THE “CENTER BOX” – CENTER DESIGNATES “0” AS THE FIRST DEFENDER TO THE SIDE HE IS BLOCKING.
G. IN A STACK – THE DLM GETS THE LOW #.
2. TEACH “COVERED/UNCOVERED” (TO DETERMINES WHO ZONE BLOCKS
AND WHO MAN BLOCKS).
A. IF YOU ARE UNCOVERED – ZONE WITH YOUR PLAYSIDE TEAMMATE.
B. IF YOU ARE COVERED – ZONE WITH YOUR BACKSIDE TEAMMATE (UNLESS HE IS COVERED THEN YOU MUST MAN BLOCK).
NOTE: IF YOUR MAN IS STACKED IN A “TANDEM” – ZONE WITH TEAMMATE WHOSE MAN IS ALSO STACKED.
3. BLOCKING CALLS (ONLY IF NECESSARY – “GRAY AREAS”)
4. TEACH LANDMARKS (AIMING POINTS) FOR COVERED AND UNCOVERED
BLOCKERS (IN INSIDE AND OUTSIDE ZONE).
5. TEACH THE 3 SITUATIONS THAN CAN OCCUR IN ZONE BLOCKING (DLM
GOES INSIDE, STRAIGHT AHEAD, OR OUTSIDE).
NOTE: TERMS OF IMPORTANCE:
A. COVERED = THE ALIGNMENT OF A DL HEAD-UP OR EITHER SHOULDER OF AN OL ON THE LOS.
B. UNCOVERED = THE SAME AS COVERED EXCEPT THE DEFENDER IS OFF THE L.O.S. BY ONE OR MORE YARDS. UNCOVERED ALSO INCLUDES A VOID (NO ONE IS ALIGNED IN FRONT OF AN OFFENSIVE LINEMAN).
This has probably been covered here but I'm drawing a blank, if there is a Nose shade AND a MLB in a 00 technqiue, who is 0, Mike or the Nose? Assume we run INSIDE ZONE to the left
My guess is #2 is correct and the combos would go like this: LT and LG combos RDE to Will, C man blocks shade, RG and RT combo the 3 technique to Mike, Y has backside cutoff and the QB boot holds the LDE?
1. Numbering defenders from inside-out (which we do)
2. Numbering defenders froim outside-in (which I don't like)
3. Blocking defenders by their defensive number technique (IE: block the "7 technique", etc.). SOME split back veer teams did this - but it has never caught on.
Carson Newman number inside out, but do some very interesting things (i think) on how they do it...for instance if a MLB is stacked on the nose, the MLB has the 0 assigned him, not the nose which is different than most I've seen. My veer rules involve gaps, not numbers...seems to work well for when I've got defenses that try to adjust alignments constantly.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
