The Carlstad Crusaders (Sweden) are currently looking for a QB who will double as the offensive coordinator for the 2008 season.
Time frame: April to September, 2008.
About the Crusaders:
Carlstad plays in Sweden's top division. We have been to the finals for 6 consecutive years (...losing all 6!). In 2007 we led the game when the clock expired, but were flagged for "illegal participation" due to a couple of players entering the field too early (to celebrate). The 15-yard penalty and extra play allowed the opponent to tie the game with a 50 yard field goal with zeroes on the clock -- they eventually won in overtime.
In 2003 Carlstad won the EFAF Cup, Europe's 2nd most prestigious international tournament.
About the opportunity
In order to compete we must import the QB position. Our plan this season is to bring in a recent grad with coaching aspirations and allow him to run the offense. He will have two assistants (OL and WR) working underneath him.
This is a great opportunity for aspiring coaches with a sense of adventure. Before you start paying your dues as a GA or other entry level position, you can coordinate an offense, get one last chance to play football and travel to Europe as a bonus. Due to the quirky Swedish schedule, you will even have a 2 week paid vacation in July (break in our schedule).
Coaching overseas is also a valid way to get experience and start off your career. Eric Mangini (HC of the NYJ) coached in Australia, Beau Baldwin (HC at Eastern Washington University) actually played/coached in Sweden. Both have risen to high levels at a young age.
We also feel that anyone who comes here has a unique opportunity to be a part of something special - to finally succeed after 6 straight failures. We are determined to turn these disappointments into a positive. There is a tremendous spirit here, and people who come here now are immediately drawn in to the passion and desire that these players have to bounce back and win the championship. There are players here at the age of 30 who have been with this organization since their teens.
Qualifications:
> College playing experience and college degree.
> Previous coaching experience (any level, including youth and camps).
> College QB experience preferred.
> HS QB experience ok too (ie if you switched positions for college).
> Experience in and preference for shotgun/spread/option style offense.
"In Hoc Signo Vinces..."
...is our motto (google it) and the players here really believe it. If you come here and help us prevail, then I can guarantee you that no matter where your career takes you, the Swedish championship will remain one of your most memorable football experiences.
Interested?
Please send a resume (including playing experience) with all of your contact information. We can also provide lots more information about the team, coaching philosopy, our league, the city and more. Be advised that we are working with a short time-frame -- send us notice of your interest ASAP.
