Their key is the same no matter what coverage you are in- last man on the LOS. It's the simplest read there is. High hat pass, low hat run. Step up hard to contain and force the run with low hat. Read through last man to near back. It's very basic. We have them read step just like a LB most of the time. We have different stances based on what coverage they are in.
How does reading the emlos help them LOCATE THE BALL, which is PRIMARY FOR ANY LB OR SAFETY? If they lose the ball, they are simply GUESSING FROM THAT POINT ON, in my opinion. Could you please expound on your philosophy a bit? Thanks in advance for your time.

The vision goes through from emlos to near back. I've always found that you don't have to teach kids to ever look into the backfield because they all do too much of it anyway.
But a proper EMLOS read will take you to the ball as well. We put every drill in context to the emlos read as well.
