Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coaches,
I am curious how you deal with attitudes on your teams. We have a player that is a great player but has an attitude of they are better than everyone else. The other issue is that this player yells and acts in way that makes other players not want to be around them or be a part of the team for that matter. I have tried to explain this to the player but because I am a player as well, it is taken as I am putting them down rather than trying to help them communicate more effectively and gain buy in from the team.
THAT ATTITUDE IS A REAL CANCER TO THE TEAM!!! NO MATTER HOW GOOD SHE IS, TELL HER TO GET AND ATTITUDE CHECKUP FROM THE NECK UP OR SHE IS NO LONGER WELCOME AS SHE IS CAUSING DISCENSION ON THE TEAM!!! THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE NO-NO. TEAM UNITY IS PROBABLY THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR ON ANY FOOTBALL TEAM!!!

Coach, I agree with Jerry. 11 years ago we had 2 players-D1 and D2. They were late all through camp, were terrible to the younger kids and compromised the integrity of the game. We disciplined them, but everyone had always taken their crap. I on the other hand put winning at the bottom of my short list when it comes to kids. We dismissed them after the first 10 days. We probably lost 2 games because of it and I heard about it. Then the "something great" that everyone talks about happened mid-season. We got experience, kids began to believe in each other, we had fun and we have never looked back. We have improved every year and I know that moment is the single moment that started our success. However great the playoffs, championships and wins have been, the absolute greatest moment was 2 years ago when one of the players came back to school and cried in my room. He said looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He now has a great job, started a family, and understands the responsibiltiy of being a leader in his profession. I asked him to speak with our team. It was awesome. Coach, do what is right, HAVE FAITH, and things will work out. Now get Jerry to finish his book and I'll be a happy man! Good Luck. Nick
Sorry, I misread and thought you were a coach. Your coach has to make the tough decisions or when tough times come around, the team chemestry will be gone. The "fight" will not be there. Let your coach read these posts and others on this topic from Coach Eason and Mountjoy. Take care
When it is all said and done...football is the ultimate TEAM game! NO ONE player can win or lose games. Great players excel along with their teammates. Dozens of the coaches who read these posts can tell you of teams that had huge potential, but ended up being torn apart from the inside out by players with major attitude problems. I've seen this happen. Frankly outside of booting the player off the team, the coach is pretty powerless to keep this from happening unless there is a total turn around from the player. It's a tough situation for any team. Best of luck 55 on both your coaching search and your team success.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
I can attest to teams win, not individuals. This year we had a TEAM. there were zero superstars on our team and we won it all. We played a couple teams with some great Div 1 prospects and they stayed home while we went to the "ship".

DB - congrats on a great season. Indeed you are right on with your post. I have coached a long time yes you can win with athletes but you can also lose with them. Thanks for the post. Coach Campbell
Woody Hayes used to say that football coaches are the "last bastion of discipline in this country". You must NOT let a kid like you described "walk all over you"!
1. Tell him to "shut up & just play";
2. Put him with the 3rd or 4th unit vs. your FIRST unit & see how well he does;
3. Stress the following to the WHOLE TEAM (you might want to make FREQUENT eye contact with him as you read it):
“TWO LAWS”
“THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE” (BY KIPLING)
“Now this is the law of the jungle,
as old and as true as the sky.
And the wolf that keeps it shall prosper,
but the wolf that breaks it must die.
As the vine that girdles the tree trunk,
the law runneth forward and back.
The strength of the pack is the wolf,
and the strength of the wolf is the pack!”
“THE LAW OF ATHLETICS” (BY BILL MOUNTJOY)
“And this is the law of athletics,
as true as the flight of the ball.
And the player that keeps it will win,
but the player that breaks it must fall.
As the ball and the parts it is made of,
are bound and held fast by the seam,
the strength of the team is the player,
and the strength of the player the team!”
