How do you guys go about 7-on-7 work during summer workouts? I'm not talking going to 7-on-7 tournaments or camps, I am talking about for your guys only. My plan for this summer was to go thru all our opponents from 07 that we will play in 08 and pull their top pass plays/formations from 07 and run them against every coverage we plan to run in 08.
First day, versus cover 3, and so on. They kids enjoy skelly much better than simply running sprints, so I thought I would make each rep a pursuit drill as well. Once ball is thrown all backers and secondary personnel. Since their is so much blitzing in the 30 Stack, I planned to just have my blitzer take a knee at the LOS. It would be more like 8-on-7 doing it this way, but I didnt want the kids to get in the habit of having someone missing.

We used to have our kids take the knee but out here in California during tournaments they won't let you do that so we pull the MIKE backer and have the right and left actually bump into the MIKE position vs. certain formations.
Take the Free out of the Alignment....This forces your underneath coverage to have Accountability because there is no Safety aligned in the High Hole Area....4example, if the offense came out in a gun spread set (2 by 2), and they went vertical with the outside receivers, and the slot receivers went on post, the Flanks would be on top of the post, and the stack olb's would be underneath the post....Mike would be the low hole guy and would match up with the back.........
I don't understand how this will make my kids better? I could care less about winning 7v7 as long as we are getting quality reps in "game like" conditions.

In that case, do what I do in the regular year and force your guys to cover with less than 7 guys. Put 8 on the field and send the blitz and have the kids take a knee and run your short-handed coverages. I've even done it in 7on7 games at times... you wind up covering with 6 guys a lot.
Kr7263....It forces them to Communicate because there is no Safety Net aligned in the middle of the field....When a mistake is made, everyone knows WHO made it....As for trying to win 7/7 competitions, if this was the main Objective we would align in Man under 2 Deep.....Do what works for U and yours, and good luck with it.........
