COACHES,
One of the hardest things to teach a QB when going to the spread is not to panic in the face of an all out "send the house" blitz. He needs to have a mind set that dictates CONFIDENCE, not FEAR!
I HAVE USED THIS DRILL FOR OVER 20 YEARS WITH MY 3 X 2 QB'S AND HAVE NEVER FOUND ANY BETTER TO BUILD THEIR CONFIDENCE.
I tell the offensive line to take a break and go to the side line and watch. I only maintain the CENTER in order to get a snap. HE IS GIVEN SPECIFIC ORDERS NOT TO BLOCK, JUST MAKE THE SNAP. PERIOD.
I then tell the D line that on the snap they are to come in an all out blitz and as hard and fast as they can come! I tell them if they so much as tag my QB I will buy them the steak of their choice at the restaurant of their choice!!! The LB's come too!!!
THE QB'S HAVE NO "HOT RECEIVERS" AND ARE TOLD TO GET THE BALL OFF TO THE RECEIVER OF THEIR CHOICE. THE RECEIVERS DO NOT FACE ANY SECONDARY. IN ALL THOSE YEARS I HAVE ONLY HAD TO BUY A COUPLE OF STEAKS AND ONE WAS BECAUSE THE QB FELL DOWN!
At any rate, the QB soon realizes that he CAN DO IT AND DO IT RELATIVELY EASY IF HE MOVES AND GETS RID OF THE BALL ON TIME AS HE SHOULD!!!
It really builds their confidence level and makes it seem like they have all day when they have the line back in front of them!!! Give it a try.
