Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
When your already in the Shotgun and it takes time to get the snap to the QB, do you still take a true three step drop or adjust. If you do take a true three step drop, then do you adjust the route steps?
NOT IN MY WAY OF DOING THINGS. I PUT MY QB AT 7-8 YDS AND HE MOVES ONLY LATERALLY, NEVER BACKWARD. YOU BETTER HAVE THE BALL IN THE QB'S HAND IN .03 OF A SECOND, NO SUCH THING AS "IT TAKES TIME TO GET TO THE QB". THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF THE GUN, NOT HAVING TO DROP BACK, YOUR ALREADY THERE!

On 3-step drop type of plays, we tell the QB to move his feet as he's catching the snap, grip it and throw it. We use the saying "move your body like a shortstop turning two." On a five step drop out of the gun, we tell our QB..."Big, quick, quick." So it similar to a 3-step drop from under center.
You can elminate all that by simply putting the QB DEEP ENOUGH OFF THE LOS. 5 yds is not deep enough, 7-8 yds is. When you have your QB "acting like a shortstop" his eyes are not going to be DOWNFIELD as they should be to be going through his read progression. But, as we always say: Go with what you know and if it works for you, hang with it.

NO steps back! If he is throwing to his right - QB merely PIVOTS like a shortstop throwing to third base. If he is throwing to his left - he PIVOTS like a shortstop throwing to second base. If he is throwing down the middle of the field - he steps just like a shortstop throwing to home plate!
When Evangel in Louisana was King they had their QB at 7-8 yards and he would slang the ball just like a shortstop. Tulsa Union has their QB do the pivot technique from the gun.
Never five QBs, RBs, TEs, WRs, on the field every play, OFFENSIVE LINEMAN RULE.
MY MAIN REASON FOR GOING TO 7-8 YD DEPTH WHEN I FIRST WENT TO THE 3 X 2 20 YEARS AGO NOW,
A LONG TIME BEFORE SPREAD FOOTBALL WAS UTILIZED BY ANYONE, WAS TO INSURE THE QB HAD TIME TO BE QUICK, BUT NOT HURRIED IN HIS READS. At 5 yds, any penetration that occurs is sure to
screw him up, while at 7-8 yds gives him just enough more time to successfully escape most of the time.
That is why your CENTER has to be top notch and able to get the ball in a tight spiral to him in 3/10ths of a second with unerring accuracy! These rainbow type balls will only serve to get him creamed! Those extra 3 yds that a DL or blitzing LB has to close makes all the difference in the world a great deal of the time.

Could you explain 3x2 formation?? Are you talking about 3 WR to one side of the formation and 2 WR to the other side of the formation?? Could you tell me what are your 3 top pass plays and 3 top running plays from this formation?
thank you

YES, TRIPS TO ONE SIDE, TWINS TO THE OTHER, QB BACK AT 7-8 YDS IN EMPTY NEST IS WHAT CONSTITUTES THE 3 X 2.
I JUST WROTE A BOOK ON THE OFFENSE THAT YOU CAN PURCHASE RIGHT HERE ON THE SITE AND IT CONTAINS LOTS OF DIAGRAMS OF LOTS OF MY FAVORITE PLAYS FROM THIS FORMATION.

GENTLEMEN,
WE EMPLOY A "FALSE---ROCKER---THROW" ON ALL QUICKS. STOLE IT FROM COACH LOBO FROM WAKE FORREST. IT HAS HELPED US IMMENSELY WITH OUR TIMING. WITH HELP FROM THIS FORUM, WE WERE ABLE TO THROW FOR A LITTLE OVER 2400 LAST YEAR IN 9 GAMES (MOSTLY FROM QUICKS). IN MY OPINION, IT WOULD BE TOO DIFFICULT TO RUN AN EFFECTIVE "RUN PACKAGE" WHEN QB IS AT 7-8 YARDS WITH THE EXECEPTION OF JET SWEEP AND SPEED OPTION. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!
Your right about you do not want your QB as deep as I keep mine if your a running team. My 3 x 2 is all about the passing game, and with the exception of 3 designed running plays, we are going to throw the fire out of it when in the spread.

Coach what do you mean by the Pivot Technique that Tulsa Union QBs use?
It is just a quick passing game technique, where the QB catches the snap pivots and strikes based on the coverage and defensive alignment. There is no drop or side waggle/bootleg action.
