This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Hey coaches, new hear and want to hear your thoughts on a topic we've been tossing around. We've been running the flexbone for a year now, going into the second. We run the midline with some midline complimentary plays, along with a veer series and a small rocket series (rocket toss, belly). We've been tossing around the idea of adding a jet series to our offense. Good idea or not? Why or why not? Thanks in aadvance.
The jet is great as long as you have a passing game to complement it, and it is deadly if you have a backside guard that is a stud. My only concern out of the flexbone would be the fact that there is that wing in the way. The most successful jet sweep teams that I've seen run with a TE on the line (then can run either strong or weak from there. A team that runs the jet well is very tough to defend, especially when they have a QB that can make a difference throwing the ball. Willammette University in Oregon runs the jet series about as well as it can be run. Coach Speckman is a heck of a guy and has a jet camp every summer, but I don't know that there's a ton online on his stuff. I'd say if you have the line and someone who can put the fear of God into the perimeter of a defense, it could be a good package to add.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
We run rocket and jet (but not triple option) so I may sound like a hypocrite, but you might be better off to stick with rocket and add more complimentary plays off that. I would rather be able to hit more places with the counters than have both rocket and jet.

We were having a hell of a time stopping a fly sweep offense several years ago...one which we had handled fairly well in years before. We fairly quickly realized that the backside guard was killing us as he was phenomenal at cutting off our backside and alley help. When we would adjust our defense to deal with that, they were able to pass or would counter, double dive, or iso right back at that guard! Since then, I've realized that option teams (the fly to me is much like option) are much more difficult to handle when that backside guard is a good athlete and is able to cut off pursuit in the second and third levels. Hope I'm making some sense.

Coach I think that the jet sweep and the series would be great to add. Once again you have to be careful of how much you put in with the option being so time intensive. We run our midline just like our jet sweep action. It is only a double option when we run mid liine but we have been very successful with it. We run it almost exclusively out of the flex bone too.
