To Coaches,
In an effort to not take too much of your time, I will try keep my letter as brief as possible. First off, I appreciate you taking the time to read my letter. I am a 26 year old aspiring coach with a great love and respect for the game. I enjoy all the challenges that it brings along with the passion it takes to be successful. Having both played and volunteered as a coach for a local high school; along with the time and effort put in has taught me a lot.
For me the game goes beyond the field and the X’s and O’s. All the experiences on and off the field with the many lessons both taught and learned bring much to a life. We all continue to grow as players and coaches. Knowing life can throw many challenges our way but we learn to overcome them in various ways. Be it as an individual, couple and/or team.
I am writing you to ask for your assistance. With the respect of the levels you’ve coached and time you’ve put in, I seek your advice. Your personal experiences and opinion are greatly appreciated. I am constantly trying to better myself and improve as and all around person and coach. I do have a few questions that I would like to get some information on.
-How is the balance of your life out of football dealt with?
-What is the best way to attain a college level coaching position?
-How do you deal with player/coach communication?
-What are some obstacles you had to overcome to get where you are?
-Do you have a system of film study? What are things you look for?
-Are there any materials you can send me to sharpen my skills?
-Is there any assistance I can give you?
Once again I appreciate your time and effort to help me out.
Thank You,
Lon Gooch
