Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Can anyone give me some advice on tackiling and wrapping drills? I play on a women's football team and it seems we continue to have problems with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
1.SEE WHAT YOU HIT ( IN OTHER WORDS DO NOT LOWER YOUR HEAD AND MAKE ORIGINAL CONTACT WITH YOUR HEAD, SURE WAY TO BREAK YOUR NECK!!!
2. INITIAL CONTACT DEPENDS ON IF RUNNER IS COMING STRAIGHT AT YOU, ANGLING AWAY FROM YOU, OR IS BY YOU AND YOU WILL BE TACKLING HER FROM BEHIND.
3. "WRAPPING UP" IS CONSTITUTED BY LOCKING PALM OF RIGHT HAND OVER THE WRIST OF LEFT HAND AS WE DRIVE OUR SHOULDER INTO BALL CARRIERS BODY (THIS POINT IS DETERMINED BY ABOVE CRITERIA IN # 2.
4. WE THEN TWIST AND PUT THE BALL CARRIERS BUTT ON THE DECK!

We always told kids to make sure they wrap and grab cloth...now, that is becoming more difficult with the tighter jerseys today, but just keep them driving their feet through the ballcarrier and get them to the ground. Tackling is about technique...and also (possibly moreso to some extent) it is about heart.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
VERY GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU MENTION "HITTING TOO HIGH". THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A PET PEEVE OF MINE AS THE TECHNIQUES EVOLVE.
It has always been my contention that if you hit them low and wrap their LEGS, they are not going to go
anywhere but down. The techniques of today teach putting your head on the ball on an angle tackle for example, and to me, this makes the tackler tend to hit too high!!! Hit 'm low, wrap up, and down they will go!!! JR makes a good point in saying that DRIVING THRU THE BALL CARRIER IS A MUST.

Thanks again coach... I think my issue is combination of alll of the above...
I am a bit taller & heavier than most of the other women so I have to bend my knees
I was also watching film and I remember hearing my ex-husband's college coach telling them get your head across the bow. I tend to have my head on the wrong side(behind the runner instead of in front). I am going to work on staying lower and getting across the carrier.
Thanks to everyone for your help, it is greatly appreciated as I work to learn more about this game and become a better player.

We can X and O all we want but great defense as we know comes down to two key elements.
#1 Tackling
#2 Pursuit-Run to the Ball
I present a tackling segement at a spring clinic each year at the Colts complex. The clinic is for any Youth or JH coach. It's an all day Saturday affair where the coaches participate in the drills.
If anyone is interested I would be happy to email you the hand out on tackling that I prepared for the clinic.
I agree with TIGER ONE. I don't teach face mask on ball. I like a solid hit and wrap on the waist. I teach my kids to know their assignment. Containment means attacking the runners outside hip. I'd rather see my guy miss a tackle than get his ankles broke off dancing with a guy who ends up running up the sideline.
