Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
As some of you know, I have a new coaching position for this season. We are not a big program (only the HC and 3 assistants, including me, on Varsity). 7-8 players will likely start on offense and defense. I think I was hired more for defense, but all of us will need to coach both. I have been told by the HC that I will have the WRs for individual offensive periods. We will run a multiple formation wing-T offense.
I am looking for any advice on drills for the WRs as well as any suggestions for good resources on coaching the position. I am especially concerned with blocking as I have been getting nauseas while watching the tapes from last year. Part of the problem is EFFORT. I will take care of that. However, I want to teach them the best possible technique as well.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Have your WR's run through blocking drills with the OL once in a while. That will force them to grow a pair! Even if they normally don't start in a 3-point stance, blocking is blocking. Engage, and move your feet!

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
As a long time QB/Rec coach in relation to being the HC, I ALWAYS WORKED THE RECEIVERS EVERY SINGLE DAY ON THEIR BLOCKING ASSIGNMENTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN WE RAN THE TRIPLE AS OUR BASE OFFENSE. Knowing that all option plays that break big, break in the outer one third of the field, it is imperative that the receivers know how to stalk block!!! I would just tell them right out from the day they came with us to their last day with us, you show us you can block and then we will throw you the ball but not until!!!

DRILLS THAT INCORPORATE "SOFT HANDS" (LIKE THROWING EGGS TO THEM FROM ABOUT 5 FEET THAT WILL CAUSE THEM TO "CUSHION" THE EGG LEST IT BREAK, "OUT OF BOUNDS DRILL" ( THROWING THE BALL TO THEM THAT CAUSES THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY GET AT LEAST ONE FOOTDOWN (HIGH SCHOOL)
BEFORE STEPPING OUT OF BOUNDS), WHEN TO MAKE A CRADLE CATCH OR A BACK HANDED CATCH,
DRILLS THAT MAKE THEM UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN THE TIMING OF THE PASS IS CORRECT, THE BALL WILL BE ON IT'S WAY TO THEM WHILE THEIR BACKS ARE STILL TO THE QB,
I HAVE A SECTION DEVOTED TO HOW WE TRAIN RECEIVERS IN MY NEW BOOK " BASICS OF THE 3 X 2 PASSING ATTACK" THAT CAN BE PURCHASED RIGHT HERE THROUGH THE BOOK STORE ON THE HOME PAGE THAT I THINK WILL HELP YOU.
