Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am switching to this defense but one of the items that concerns me is communicating game day to my team, any suggestions. We have the wrist play bands that we can use BUT there seems to be a lot that needs to be available.
Don't get more complicated than you need to. The odd stack is great because it switches up blocking angles and reads, but it also has so many options for blitzing that it lends to over-thinking. In my opinion, if your kids can't remember and understand the calls for a defense (no matter what it is) without using wristbands the defense is more complicated than it needs to be. Keep things simple, attacking, and allow your athletes to make plays.
One of the greatest onfield quotes I've ever heard was by a "veteran" coach who had been damn near everywhere and seen damn near everything. The head coach asked him "What do you think, Jumbo?" He came back with, "I'm a defensive coach, I'm not paid to think, I'm paid to react!" That sums up defense pretty well for me.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
We have all of our blitzes/stunts named and give hand signals to them. I tried the wrist coach, but it took me so long to find the number I was looking for the offense would end up breaking the huddle at the same time as us. I hated it. Hand signals are much fatser for me.

I think I am in the same boat...if you wouldn't mind sharing what you have done I would appreciate that in email of course.
Sorry coach, I misunderstood. Like Greenough, I'd tag your blitz packages, rep them, and give them hand signals! The only thing I usually use is down & distance tendancies (to start the game anyhow) and my gameplan goes from there.

We keep the calls to 10 total each week and some of those are the same call with a different coverage. The LBs have wristbands with the calls and numbers. The key is having your call sheet organized. I narrow my calls down to down and distance and I only use between 2-5 calls per down so I'm not searching the entire list of 10 calls for the number. I also have a tendancy to keep certain calls the same each week. We all know that #1 is short smoke 3. We keep that the same. We could even probably call it #1 and the kids could run it.
