Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are looking into going to the 2 pt stance and was wondering which of you uses it and why? What are the pros and cons of it? Off the ball or close to the line. Books? etc..... Thanks for any info.
Pass blocking, yes! Run locking,NO! Too big a target, to easy to block (especially cut block). This controversey has went on for a few years now and I never saw any advantage that big to make us want to change. Just my opinion as always.

My first experience with coaching a line that was primarily from a 2-pt. stance was last year and I was less than impressed. As coach said, it was great for pass blocking, and really not consistently effective for run blocking. From what I've seen, if your linemen are very strong and able to out-muscle people...a 2-pt might be good. But if, like most high school OL's, you need to out technique and beat the defense to the point of attack, I think the 3-pt is best. I kept hearing about the OL coach wanting his guys to see the defense, recognize blitzes, etc. Yes, I can agree with that to some extent, but honestly, if the defense is able to get under you and beat you to the POA your offense is done anyhow. Does it matter that you can see them beating you? On the other hand, if your offense is predicated on the pass and is able to get the job done with the running game that you are using, go get 'em. I guess I'm still part of the slowly fading "smash-mouth" mentality.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
I agree with the coaches when it comes to using a 2 point stance over a 3 point stance. I think your asking for trouble, I can see it when you pass but unfortunately your giving your opponent a very good key. The 3 point is still the best when it comes to running a balanced offense, pass and run.
We've always used it only in 1st sound situations on offense. And with running the wing-T our 2 and 4 backs would be in that stance. To make it clearer as far as the 1st sound goes. Our o-line T to T (and TE if there)would rush up to the line and set in a 2pt stance. Once the QB get under C he then starts his cadance. On "down" we would either snap the ball or the o-line would shift into their 3pt stance and the QB would continue. Just something to keep the offense in rhythem and defense not jumping the snap.
We go 2-point all the time. But we may be unique in that we are a Spread Gun Wing-T team. We DON't drive block. We gap block, trap, pull, pass pro, draw block, etc. We are also a no-huddle team. Not going into a 3-point let's us play game with the D-Line on no-play/freeze plays.
If your plan isn't to blow people off the ball go ahead, but it is good for your players to be familiar wit the 2pt. stance for when you run your two-minute offense.
Never five QBs, RBs, TEs, WRs, on the field every play, OFFENSIVE LINEMAN RULE.
Coach I like to use both 2 and 3 pt stance depending on the type of lineman you have in your program. If they have good feet and low pad level we like to use the different stance sets to our advantage. We like to show pass in a 2pt stance when running draws and screens, run traps, counters and powers out of 2pt stances on occasion. In the zone game we like to mix up 2/3 pt or 2/2 giving our OL the advantage of getting a great bucket step on the outside zone and an great flat first step on inside zone.
In my offense I also use both 2 and 3 pt. stances. I have my C & G in 3 pt. stances with my T in 2 pt. stances. My reasoning behind this is I run a Triple Gun Veer offense, my T rarely block man on, therefore there is no need for them to be in position to drive block. They typically work up to the Mike LB, and therefore need to identify him before the snap. Being in a 2 pt. stance allows them to do this. I also pull my T and I feel they can pull and even scoop block better out of a 2 pt. stance than a 3 pt. stance.
