Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I recently left college coaching(3 years ago) and am now a High School Coach. I am currently teaching on a Temporary Certificate at a small HS. My question is this. I am not extremely happy with my football situation here for several reason but I do like where I am. We have good administrators, I am close to my family, we like the community, etc. Everyone tells me to just hang on until I can get completely certified and then find a head coaching job, but what do I do until then? I left an assistants job I was happy at to come here so I could get certified and then become a head coach knowing there were issues and thinking I could make it alright but I don't feel like the program is heading in the right direction and am really struggling with that. Any advice would be appreciated
The only advice I can give is do not allow your principles or integrety to become compromised. After that, you have to ask yourself if you can stick it out or not. Personally, I have never been one to advocate being in a job that makes you miserable. How is the program moving in the wrong direction?

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
I wouldn't neccessarily say the program is going in the wrong direction but I don't see a change in the coaching staff's mindset that will put it going in the right direction. The program has struggled and although some things are getting better I don't feel that we are holding ourselves as a staff nor our players to a high enough standard to make us successful. Is it fair to evaluate based on my standards or am I just complaining. There isn't really anything specific happening that I can point to that says we aren't moving forward. It really is more of a mindset. Its almost as if we want the best but we don't expect the best. I don't know if that makes any sense but for now it's the best I can do.
As a coach who has coached at all levels of football at one time or another, I think what you are experiencing is the simple fact that having coached at the college level for 3 years has given you a different mindset than the average high school level coach. The degree of preparation, the hours of film study, the lack of real commitment on many high school level players, the knowledge that your fellow staff members exhibited, etc. are usually far less on the high school level. AS you learn to adapt, it will get easier, but don't ever quit striving to try to make them see things your way!!! When the HC job does come, then run it the way you know best.

I agree with Coach Easton. Frankly, some coaches are in the position because they were available at the time it was open. There is a very wide range of coaching approaches in high school. It can be frustrating because the kids, for the most part, do not have any real appreciation at how lucky they are to be able to play this game. They don't realize that in a few short years, the vast majority of them will never strap a helmet on again. Players are not as committed, coaches are not as committed--frankly that $1.25 an hour just doesn't always lend itself to total program committment. If you're in a good community, and you have a supportive administration, then change will be pretty easy when you have the opportunity to make it happen. If you're happy with your living situation, your family is happy, and you don't hate your job, I'd say give it some time. Once the rest of the staff knows you, they will be more willing to try new things. It is tough, though, when you are working for someone who doesn't hold the same level of expectations that you do. I'm seeing that right now in my teaching job. It flat out sucks much of the time. Good luck.

I once kept a coach on staff at a new job, who told me he had coached football for 20 years at the school.
The administration backed him up and said that he had. The first day on the practice field I was installing our offense and turned to him who was a defensive coach and asked him to put the D in a 52 Okie. I turned back to the offense and said a few words and then turned to run a play against the 52. The defense was still milling around and I said: Hey coach, get them in a 52 Okie please. He just stood there and finally said, "exactly how do you line that up coach?" What you experience on the high school level will amaze you at times.
