Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are beginning the summer passing league and will face a lot of spread passing teams.
1. How do you guys defend the BUNCH ROUTES? in a 4-2-5 defense.
We are having our currently playing 5 man under 2 FS's. The SS get in the face of the #2 receiver and not letting him off the line. But the C is on #1 & other DB on #3 but, they are having a problem staying with the receivers.
Thanks,

Harry73 at what depth do you have them playing and you really don't need to be in Cover 2. Coach Mountjoy is a good person to write for information on coverages out of the 4-2-5, he is really great about helping. I think you'd be better off playing CB on #!. pull over the SS for #3 and then play a safety over #2, if they are wide then bring out a ILB over #3. If your kids are being out quicked then back you kids off a little more and have them read the first couple of steps by the receiver. Hope this helps.
I have run the 4-2-5 for 20 plus years on two levels (high School & professional Minor League). I am a man cover guy and have a hard and fast rule that we never, ever break! the Corners roll up hard with inside leverage, the Tiger Back (our teminology for the twin safeties that you probably allude to as outside LB's) always take the # 2 receivers on either side. If it is a 3 x 2 spread the # 3 receiver is always covered by the Sam backer. ALL DEFENDERS ARE ROLLED UP HARD WITH INSIDE LEVERAGE AND PLAY BUMP AND RUN.

I now believe in MAN coverage more than zone (esp. vs. SPREAD offenses).
That being said - In the NFL & major College - it is believed that various zones are better than man vs. "BUNCH"! Another coaching point is that they play someone on the middle receiver in the bunch (usually the apex) & try to disrupt his release!
I SURE BUY INTO THAT ABOUT TRYING TO DISRUPT THE APEX OF THE BUNCH AND TRY TO TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER BY TRYING TO DISRUPT ALL 3 RECEIVERS IF POSSIBLE!!! That is why I have been a bump and run , not turn and run, guy for a long time. Glad to hear of your acceptance, verses the spreads especially, of the merits of man over zone coverages.

I think that the coaches have done a great job of explaining about using man coverage, I totally agree if you have the athletes. We have tried one thing that goes along with what the coaches were saying about attacking. We literally sent a man to attack the bunch before they could get off the LOS, and at the same time hope to pressure the QB. We did this from an angle so that we could screw up the entire bunch. We were in man to man like the coaches suggested.
