The following information is what gave the "TRAP" block its name....
Trapping:
A defensive player who charges through a hole or opening into the backfield territory, and then to charge him from the side by surprise and run a play over the territory or opening which the defensive player came through, is called "Mouse - Trapping ".
The hole created by the offensive lineman is known as the trap, and the player contacting defensive player (known as the mouse) in the trap is the key-man and closes the trap to make the play a successful one.
