What dictates the kick slide for tackle in a 5 step game is the "V" of the neck of the defensive ends. Would like to discuss this with other coaches if interested. Coach CAmpbell
Coach the "V" of the necy is our indicator for the angle at which we will kick slide our tackles. If the "V" no matter how wide the rusher is, is pointed at the offensive tackle all he will do is set his anchor to the half man (inside out position) if the "V" of the neck is pointed up field then the tackle will kick to the half man. Coach CAmpbell
Coach, We have been using scouting reports and the distance the outside rusher is away from the Tackle to determine whether we kick slide or not. The "V" of the neck may be a better way. For an extra fast outside rush we have our tackle start with his outside foot back in his stance. We then slide(to that foot) - kick-slide to the rush. This, of course, is in passing situations only.

Coach you will find reading the "V" of the neck an easy landmark for your tackles, still working to the half man advantage rule. JM I teach this same concept when working the pro camps also and with my high school linemen so no problem. Coach with the wide rushers I don't vary the stance unless obvious passing situations, because I want the defense to know we can still put the option game at them. Coach CAmpbell

Kicking to the half man with slight shoulder lean inside will tell him how far to kick. Pick the angle at which you feel you can cut off the outside rusher. Coach CAmpbell
Coach Campbell, I would love any video you have on offensive line play. I have been using your mid-line tape as teaching tool and it is great. I have also implemented many of the techniques I have seen at the clinics you have lectured in . Thanks Coach, you've been a great source of knowledge!
Thanks Coach A, is there anything specific that you are looking for. Lyle and myself will be glad to help if you ever have any questions. Coach CAmpbell
Coach Campbell, Any instructional video you might have on zone blocking in general and specifically the Veer. I would also love a good pass block video ( 3 step, 5 step and play action) and practice drills for O-line play. Basically anything you have I would purchase, as your teaching method translates so well to High school football. Thanks again Coach!
