Looking for some info on the 4-4 and 46

That's not too bad a price. I'll order that. The biggest question marks I have are with the coverages. Are you playing man-1 free? Are you playing 3-deep 3-under zone? Do the S and 9 drop back into coverage?

As for the 4-4, it seems like there are a lot of different specific schemes on the archives. I'm learning a lot about those just reading posts. Maybe there isn't A single scheme to learn.

I know these DVD's are fairly expensive - but if you coach for a LIVING, it is money well spent. Even if you DON'T coach for a living (Youth League, etc.) you owe it to the kids to give them the best you can. If you are currently NOT coaching, but PLAN to coach - you need to get an information base to enhance your chances of getting hired. You have to "PAY THE PRICE" for success in this profession. It is HARD to learn a defense thoroughly simply thru email - too many "WHAT IF'S" that need to be answered!

Coach Collins is committed to the 8 man front, "G" defense. A big part of this defense's success is the play of inside linebackers. In this DVD, Collins breaks down technique and coaching emphasis for developing solid inside linebackers. He begins by highlighting the proper stance. Collins believes that good players prepare before every snap to afford them a chance to make the play. To that extent he covers the pre-snap reads that should be made. A key concept for reads that Collins teaches is to "fill open windows" and "scrape closed doors" in a fast flow. The scrape is a linebacker technique that requires hands on the guard and use of the press technique. Other reads discussed include the full flow read and the rock flow. Linebackers are taught to play only with eyes, feet and hands and are drilled accordingly. Technique drills include the force, scrape and press technique, and are illustrated by practice players. Additional drills are used to demonstrate backfield flow and gaps, leverage and play against receiver routes. From the marker board to the drill footage, Collins examines the play of inside linebackers within his defensive scheme. Attack Mentality Versus the Run Using the 4-4 Defense

Coach Chimienti believes that "linebackers make tackles, but linemen make tackles for losses." Aggressive players "get off the ball" and this must be drilled and developed in practice. To that extent, Chimienti presents the techniques and drills he uses at C.W. Post to instill an "Attack Mentality." To be successful in attack mentality football, it is essential to crowd the football. A good stance will help defensive linemen to make plays on the other side of the line. Chimienti teaches both the right and left-handed stance. The drills demonstrated include the get off drill, tag drill, the shoot drill, the defense on defense drill and the reach drill. These drills work on explosiveness to help players get off the line and get to the ball quicker. Good execution of these drills will include escapes such as the lock out, pulling the gate, open it, get underneath it, rip off and make the play. Chimienti also covers visual and pressure keys for each of the defensive linemen. The use of practice and game videotape strengthens this presentation on run progression. Each block and technique is carefully presented by Chimienti to help you gain valuable knowledge for teaching your defensive linemen!

Attack Mentality Versus the Pass Using the 4-4 Defense

Changing the outcome of many football games depends on your pass rush system. In this DVD, Coach Chimienti explores the C.W. Post pass rush progression. In a systematic approach, coaches give players a detailed plan of every move from pre-snap plan to the sack. The pre-snap plan prepares each player for the ability of their opponent plus technical and situational aspects of the game. Alignment includes the 7,3,5, and 1 technique. Working with the offensive lineman's momentum is key to solid line play and many different techniques are part of this presentation. With detailed videotape of practice footage, crucial areas such as stance, footwork, soft sets and constant foot movements are explained that will help the attacking mentality. Various moves demonstrated include the bull rush, drive the bus, club on air, club on body, club rip, club punch and hook. Three much needed counter moves are also illustrated with use of practice videotape: the hump move, arm under arm over and the spin. These moves give defensive linemen a great assortment of tools to use in their attacking line play. This enthusiastic presentation by Chimienti does an excellent job of breaking down the pass rush that has been a key to C.W. Post's success!

Coaching DBs and Outside LBs in Cover 2 & Cover 8 Defense within the 4-4 Defense

Cover 8 is defined as an eight-man front with a 7, 3, 1 and 5 technique backed by four linebackers, two corners and a safety. The beauty of the Cover 8 is you have eight to nine men in the box, which covers all situations that may be presented. In this DVD, Coach Chimienti details all facets of defensive back and outside linebacker play in the Cover 8. The first area covered deals with corner play techniques. Chimienti details pre-snap planning, including the offenses' formation, down and distance, field landmarks and communication; stance progression, including the backpedal and transition; and the speed turn technique, hip flips, vertical turns, bail & catch and inside and outside release. He also shows how to properly read receivers. Next, Chimienti discusses the play of outside linebackers. These players are the "force players" defending the pitch. Linebackers "force" when the backfield comes at you outside the box and "Vice" everything else. Chimienti does an excellent job of breaking down reads for outside linebackers. The free safety must also make reads and work with both corners. Chimienti introduces the Cover 2 against 10 and 11 personnel. The look is more of a spread mentality coverage. Alignments, reads and coverage against the run and the pass are discussed. Within Cover 2 are alternative coverage such as Cover 2 Man, Patriot, Sing and Bang. This coverage supports the blitz, offers solid run support and gives many looks from a sound package. Excellent usage of game videotape allows defensive technique to come alive. All of the reads, alignments and position specifics are addressed in the game tape. Use these techniques, coaching tips, alignments and reads to develop a flexible, strong defensive unit.
