Need Advice for Giving Private Off-Season Lessons

Many of us life long QB coaches, and other position coaches as well, have done this for long years. The first prerequisite to be met is in order to draw anyone to the camps you have to be an established QB coach with a good record of wins behind you, or you have to be an ex-college or pro QB with a name that all are familiar with and will draw. Lots of coaches try it and don't get off the ground. Fee's range widely and are based upon your reputation and length of service in the game. It takes a lot more than most think it does in the way of preparation, are you going to cater to passing QB's or option QB's? How long have you coached QB's? Are you a Head Coach with a winning record? Are you an ESTABLISHED QB COACH if you are not a Head Coach? Is your name known? Did you play college and if so where? These are the things that parents who will be shelling out the fee are going to want to know of you. Best of luck to you in this endeavor, hope it works out well for you.

Being the QB coach at a winning HS certainly will help you to get started. The local folks who know you can identify with that and for your first instructional camps I would recommend that you stay close to home. Then, as kids who have attended your camps or played for you start to blossom, this of course will enhance your personal reputation as a QB coach as they go on to college and tell folks your name as the coach who taught them what they know to that point. Have a business plan that offers the kids real incentive to attend, things like t-shirts and hats, watermelon busts at the end of the camp, invite any pro or college players you know to address the kids, TOLERATE NO SWEARING OR USE OF TOBACCOO IN ANY FORM BY THE KIDS OR COACHES YOU HAVE HELPING YOU AS THE PARENTS ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO THIS KIND OF THING. Being a Minister, as well as, a football coach I always include a short talk on
the importance of good moral character in today's world as there are so many who really need it in there young lives. These are the kind of things that I always used that helped me have successful camps along the long and winding road of our profession.
