I need some help, how would line up in your 3-5-3 vs. Shotgun Empty Trips Left and a TE & Wing on the right side? From this formation, the team will run jet sweep, QB dive and counter criss cross to either side. From a passing stand point, they like to motion the wing to the trips side which gives them 4 eligible receivers and then they run a flood package to that same side. The receivers (x-Streak,z-bench, LH-stop, RH-flare)
In the past we played the GMC Defense, Zoo Blue Cover Zero with the C-#1, SS-#2, FS taking #3. For those of you not familiar with GMC, Zoo Blue, basically, the BATS fire B, Nose and Mike take both A gaps and then Ends take C gap. Its a great blitz which has devasted many teams but when they motion the wing back though to the trips side I can't cover the flare unless I remove one of my blitzing BATS. I don't want to have to do that if possible. Any ideas on how I could better play this set without leaving the strong side unprotected?
I would keep the blitz on. When the WB motions to the Trips side of the Empty formation, I would bump everybody to the Trips side. Have the BAT to the Trips take the #4 (who ever it is), let my dog to the TE side blitz and have the corner cover the TE man-man. It follows the same principles as the GNC Trips check. Just keep your Trips side Corner on #1, Trips side DOG on #2, your FS on #3 and let the Trips side BAT take #4. This way you don't have to run with the motion.
After you have the BAT take # 4 would you bump all of your remaining backers to the trips side and go through with the Zoo Blue? Ie... Mike would now take B, Remaining BAT would take A, Dog would take B?
